Best Sound of the Show - CES 2012

Hi Friends,

Steven Stone from The Absolute Sound claimed Calyx room (Digital and Analog) is the Best Sound of the Show (for the lowest price) !

He wrote:-
Best Sound (for the lowest price)
I’ve heard the Magnepan 1.7 speakers numerous times at shows, but I’ve never heard them sound as good as in Digital and Analog Co LTD’s room. Starting with a Dell computer running J-River playback software connected via USB to a prototype Calyx Femto DAC/preamp driving a pair of Calyx 500 monoblock amps, my 192 files were served up with all the finesse and brio of a far more expensive system. Cables were from Zen-Sati, and the whole shebang came in under $12,000.

Dear Friends,

I'm very happy able to meet Mr Yi in person, the President of Digital and Analog, Calyx Audio in CES 2012. With his warm personality, he shares a lot of his philosophy about Calyx with me and I learn as much from him.

He had shown me the latest Calyx SuperDAC and USB cable (still in prototype stage), both of us are very excited with these new products range.

Wish to share some pictures which I took during our meeting.

Very wonderful review of Calyx DAC 24/192 from 6moons.com

Hi Friends,

A wonderful review of Calyx DAC 24/192 from 6moons.com.

Link to review of Calyx DAC 24/192 from 6moons.com

Quoted from the review : ..." Now I’ll skip right to the final chase scene. USB playback with the Calyx, be it 16-bit/44.1kHz or higher, was excellent and well beyond what I expected for the price. Music emerged from an exceptionally quiet black backdrop in which all manner of musical nuances stood out. Resolution of low-level detail was superb but didn’t come across as sterile or aggressive. It’s not that I heard things on my recordings for the first time. It’s more that what I heard and like about a particular recording as little nuances and artistic touches was a bit more apparent and real. Along with excellent low-level detail I noted a silky smooth yet crystal-clear midrange and treble while the bass was taut and amazingly well articulated if a tad lacking in weight.

While I didn’t find the presentation dry per se, it did lean in that direction. The Calyx also seemed to remove the digital edge and brittleness from 16/44.1—that glary, bright, etched upper band so despised by vinylphiles—without rendering such recordings lifeless or dull. Also impressive was the wonderfully relaxed easy way in which music emerged. Playback was balanced, natural and free from artifice. The sense of forward propulsion, momentum and timing was superb and certainly superior to any CD player or transport I have owned. Simply put, music via the Calyx was utterly engaging. The more I listened, the more I enjoyed it....

......The laptop/Cardas/Calyx combo in this review retails for about a quarter of my CEC/MIT/Audiomat rig but was at least as musically involving and could play hi-rez recordings in native mode up to 24-bit/192kHz. This was amazing to me. Finally truly excellent digital sound can be had at everyman prices. Forget everything bad I’ve ever said about computer audio. I now take it back. The Calyx 24/192 DAC has certainly tempted me to ditch the silver disc for good. Do check it out if you can."

Cheers !
